Hello Everyone,

Hope you all are doing good

This time I am bringing you my interview experience with BNY Mellon, an investments company.

Did I crack the interviews? So here is my status :

Selection ❌

Let’s start with the whole interview process

I applied directly to the HackerEarth’s Code Divas contest which annually BNY Mellon conducts for women only.

OA Round

This round comprises 3 Programming Questions to be solved within two-and-a-half hours using a programming language of our preference. The questions were from dynamic programming, hashmaps, and some questions involving mathematical computations and strings. I was able to solve two questions totally and one partially. After this round, I was not confident because of the last question.

💡Tip: Make sure to clear maximum questions.

I got a mail regarding the shortlisting, and fortunately, it stood out as a congratulations mail to me, but with a small trick, the shortlisted student’s profile will be matched with the company’s requirements, if matched then the process will continue.

💡Tip: Keep your resume updated.

Lucky enough, I got the opportunity to be interviewed with BNY Mellon. I got a call from the technical recruiter explaining the whole interview process.

Interview Round 1

This round was for around 40 min. The interview began with a general introduction and then we directly jump into DSA questions, first question was a straightforward question on Linked List, which I was able to solve quickly as I already knew the approach to solve it. The second question, which I can rate as a medium-hard, was on trees.

💡Tip: never pretend to the interviewer that you already know the technique of solving question.

Interview Round 2

In this round, the interviewer directly jumps into DSA. It was about four questions were asked. Starting two questions was on stacks and LinkedList, but for the third question, I messed it up, I was too afraid of graphs as I was not good at graphs concept and hence even after attempting and trying a lot, I had to skip this question and that is where I felt like a rejected. Then the interviewer asked me to continue with the final question which I confidently agreed with, and it was on binary trees.

Rejection Mail

Although I understood that one question could change my entire journey to BNY and as I imagined, it was a rejection mail.

Things I learnt and started working on:

  1. Even though you are accurate in ¾ areas that one area, there is always somebody perfect in 4/4. So start preparing yourself and enhance your shortcomings. From that day on, I started learning graph concepts.

Hope this helps you to understand the process.

Thank you!
